Not does Indian Railways provide you with Retiring Rooms(which are not free), but it also provides its passengers with Waiting Rooms and are for passengers which are to depart from a particular station.

Unlike retiring rooms where you have to pay to stay in a particular room, you can use the waiting rooms and their services without any cost. They are meant for all the passengers and are served on a first come first served basis.

You will only be able to stay at a waiting room if you have a reserved ticket and this facility of the waiting room is only meant for passengers which are to deport from a particular station.

If you arrived at a station through the train, then you won’t be able to use the waiting rooms, but retiring rooms is an option if they are available at that station.

Waiting Rooms are available across the country on most of the railway stations. Instead of beds like retiring rooms, they only have chairs where you can sit. Toilets are available, but the shower facility isn’t available.

You can stay in the waiting rooms until the departure train comes. Entry is allowed up to 3 hours before scheduled departure of the train.

Types of Waiting Rooms

There are 3 types of waiting rooms:

Lower Class:

They are non-AC rooms which are SL/2S passengers having confirmed or RAC tickets.

Ladies:

They are specially reserved for ladies and are non-AC rooms which are SL/2S passengers having confirmed or RAC tickets.

Upper Class:

They are air-conditioned rooms which are for 3A/2A/1A/EC/CC passengers.

Toilets are available in all of these rooms.
